11/27/2024 (Permalink)
Space heaters are a common way to stay warm during the cold winter months. However, they can also pose a significant fire risk. To prevent accidents, follow these safety tips:
Install Safety Equipment:
- Ensure a working smoke alarm is installed in the room where the space heater is used.
- Keep a fire extinguisher nearby.
Check for Damage:
- Never use a space heater with a frayed cord or a hot plug.
Direct Plugging:
- Always plug the space heater directly into a wall outlet. Avoid using extension cords or power strips.
Stable Placement:
- Place the space heater on a stable, flat surface to prevent tipping.
Maintain Safe Distances:
- Keep the space heater at least three feet away from walls, furniture, curtains, and other flammable materials.
Unattended Operation:
- Never leave a space heater unattended, especially when sleeping or leaving the room.
