Generator Safety
2/3/2022 (Permalink)
SERVPRO of Morris/Ottawa wants to make sure everyone is safe while using back up generators. Although helpful especially during power outages, using them safely is important. So if you have a generator that you plan to use for a power outage during severe weather, follow the safety tips below provided by the American Red Cross.
- Never use a generator in inside a home, garage, basement, crawl space or any enclosed or partially enclosed area. Opens door and windows will not prevent carbon monoxide build up.
- Avoid electrocution by only using the generator on dry surfaces. If needed use under an open canopy. Never touch the generator with wet hands.
- Install carbon monoxide detectors in central locations throughout the home as well as outside of sleeping areas. Installing these will help provide early warning signs if CO is inside your home.
SERVPRO of Morris/Ottawa is available 24 hours a day to assist with any storm related restoration needs.
