Prevent secondary damage after a water loss
2/3/2022 (Permalink)
The 24 hour period following a water loss are the most important in prevention of secondary or permanent damage. That is why SERVPRO of Morris/Ottawa professionals will arrive onsite within 4 hours of a call for assistance. While you wait for help to arrive here are a few things you can do to help prevent more damage
- Shut off the water source, if needed call a qualified professional to stop the water source
- Turn off the circuit breaker to the wet areas if it is safe to do so
- Remove as much access water as you can with a wet vac or by mopping or blotting. Never use a vacuum cleaner
- Raise furniture from the wet floor and place it on wood blocks. If you do not have access to wood blocks, aluminum foil will work as well.
It is important to start the drying process as soon as possible, as mold can start to grow in as little as 48 hours. If you need assistance with a water loss give SERVPRO of Morris/Ottawa a call today (815)416-0075
