Smoke alarms are a crucial safety measure for every home. According to the National Fire Protection Agency, properly installed and maintained smoke alarms can save lives.
Here are some essential tips to keep your family safe:
- Placement: Install smoke alarms in every bedroom, outside each sleeping area, and on every level of your home, including the basement.
- Monthly Testing: Test your smoke alarms monthly using the test button.
- Battery Replacement: Replace the entire smoke alarm unit every ten years if it has non-replaceable batteries. If the alarm chirps, replace the batteries immediately.
- Never Disable: Never disable or remove the batteries from your smoke alarm.
